Tax Professional Preparation Course: Initial Test of Competence (ITC)

The purpose of the Tax Professional Preparation Courses is to ensure that learners are adequately prepared and equipped before attempting to write the assessment of the South African Institute of Tax Professionals (SAIT). SAIT’s two assessments are:

  • Tax Professional Initial Test of Competence (ITC)
  • Tax Professional External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA).

Course Structure – ITC Exam (June & November)

  • Learners receive a study package prior to the start of the Preparation Course
  • First Saturday contact session
  • Second Saturday contact session
  • Online facilitator support.

The study information package includes

  • Recommended timetable that learners should follow
  • Recordings and a slide-pack of prior Tax Professional ITC preparation courses with guidance on how to work through these recordings and slide pack before the formal June/November examinations
  • SAIT ITC previous exam papers.

  • Session 1: Curriculum, ITC syllabus, exam technique, and key tax topics
  • Session 2: Key tax topics and exam technique practice
  • Session 3: Work through old exam papers and practise exam technique

  • Gross income and exempt income
  • Deductions and assessed loss
  • Disposal of assets
  • Individual tax and payroll calculations
  • Individual tax return preparation
  • Company tax and specific areas such as dividends payments from shares financed, etc. Also SBC and turnover tax
  • Tax administration (provisional tax and penalties)
  • VAT registration and VAT calculations
  • Collateral taxes (high-level understanding of donations tax, estate duty, transfer duty, and STT)
